• Who should buy HtruO?

  Anyone that enjoys clean filtered water and cares about our environment while saving money. Sounds hokey but it's true. HtruO makes sense on many levels.

• Why should I buy HtruO?

• Do I need a drain or electricity for HtruO?

  No. HtruO requires no drain or electricity making it a stand alone, whole house filter that is easy and inexpensive to install without needing to draw any power off the grid.

• I am on a private well. Is HtruO good for me?

  While HtruO is primarily meant to filter municipal water but you can use it on a private well system. HtruO's effectiveness would come down to the chemistry of the water coming from your well. You should have a water sample taken. If your water is relatively soft with minimum to no iron, HtruO would work very well for you. If you have water conditioning in place already, HtruO is a great way to fine tune your well water.

• Can I take my HtruO water with me?

  Absolutely! HtruO 2 Go allows you to bottle your own water and take it anywhere while showing the world you care about our environment.

• What does HtruO filter from my water?

  HtruO filters out many contaminants and particles down to 5 microns. Without getting to technical, HtruO filters dirt and sediment and removes chlorine and chlorination by-products. HtruO filters municipal water and provides bottled quality water to your entire home.

• What do you mean dirt? Where does the dirt come from?

  Municipal water comes from one of two places, a reservoir or a common well supply. Either way the water supplied to you home originates with dirt and particles and then picks up more as it passes through the distribution pipes.

• Why should I care about removing chlorine and chlorination by-products?

  Chlorine is a necessary evil in the municipal water world. Before water can be sent to your home it must be disinfected. The most common way to disinfect a water supply is through chlorination. However, we believe that chlorine is the number one reason the bottled water industry became the behemoth it is today. Consumers were not satisfied with the water they received from their tap. Chlorine makes water smell and taste horrible, it dries your skin and hair, and poses potential health risks brought about from chlorination by-products. When water was marketed as tasting better with no odor and even healthier, the consumer market bit and bit hard. Now we are dealing with the environmental disaster created by that behemoth. HtruO removes chlorine and chlorination by-products.

  Flushing of the Lines Alert!

  *Surely you have noticed when the chlorine smell and taste is stronger than usual. Frequently your municipal water provider has to flush the lines and this means a temporary increase in chlorine. HtruO guards your home and family against elevated chlorine levels.

• Does HtruO remove fluoride?

  No

• Does HtruO soften my water?

  Very slightly but HtruO should not be seen as a water softener. If your municipal water is extremely hard you might consider installing an environmentally friendly softener in conjunction with HtruO.

• Can I install HtruO on my own?

  We recommend that your HtruO unit be installed by a licensed and insured plumber. Take advantage of our relationship with ServiceMagic.com or have your existing plumber install your HtruO.

• How much should it cost to install my HtruO?

  Any experienced plumber should be able to install HtruO within an hour. If you choose to take advantage of our relationship with ServiceMagic.com the $200.00 should cover a standard install.

• What is a Standard Install?

  A standard install should take less than an hour and require very few extra parts than what is provided. This is determined by where the water main enters your home. An easily accessible line in a basement or utility room would be standard. A crawl-space would not be standard. If the plumbing is in good shape and there is room to work, this would be standard. If the plumbing is old and decaying, this would be non-standard.

• Who decides what is Standard and Non-Standard?

  It comes down to you and the plumber. Each install is unique. Clear and open communication between two rational adults will determine if there will be any extra charges.

• If I take advantage of the ServiceMagic.com relationship, who pays for any extra charges for Non-Standard Installs?

  You will discuss any extra charges with the plumber prior to install. If there will be any extra charges you will pay those extra charges directly to the plumber. The $200 install allowance covers the first hour of labor and $50.00 in extra materials.

• What if I cannot install HtruO?

  This will be extremely rare but will happen. If you find yourself in this position please call 1-888-587-HTRUO (4878). We will talk about alternatives and if we can come up with no solution, again extremely rare, we will refund your credit card once you ship your HtruO back to us. All we ask is that you pay the return shipping.

• How often should I change my filters?

  The answer here is anytime you feel like it. Though you probably will only have to change your filters every 160,000 gallons which turns out to be about twice a year. Look into our Evergreen Replacement Cartridge program to make this simpler. HtruO utilizes clear housings to allow you to appreciate the filtering process. If you feel your #1 filter is looking a little too dirty replace it. We do recommend you replace both your filters at the same time. You can easily purchase replacement filters here.

• Where do I get replacement cartridges?

  During your check out process do not opt-out of our Evergreen Replacement Cartridge Program. This program takes the thinking and effort out of obtaining new replacement cartridges. Every six months your credit card on file will be charged $33.00 plus shipping based on your zip code and your replacement cartridges will show up on your doorstep. • Which cartridge goes where?

  It is very important to place your #1 filter cartridge (pleated) first in line. This filter removes the dirt and particles and lengthens the life of your #2 filter cartridge (solid). Think of where the line enters your home and place #1 closest to the wall/water meter.

• I have changed my filters and now I cannot get one to stop leaking. What went wrong?

  Most times this is due to a missing or miss-aligned rubber o-ring. Sometimes when you dump your filter and sump the rubber o-ring fall off. Check the bucket or wherever you dumped your filter. Usually you will find the o-ring. Simply place it back on the sump and re-screw the sump back up into the head. Other times you may have the cartridge upside down or not seated correctly in the sump. If your unit still leaks contact your plumber.
